The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center’s Director of Education, Allison Houchins, curates the Center’s changing gallery exhibits. Exhibits change in one to two-month intervals. In addition to regional art exhibits and juried exhibits by area artists, the gallery also features artworks by Appalachian State’s students and faculty in the gallery space of Lucas Mansion. Previous Lucas Mansion Gallery exhibitions include the Department of Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition in 2023, as well as a solo exhibition of drawings and paintings by faculty member Tim Ford. Works by Karli Pendergraft ’18 were featured in the Center’s third-floor Emerging Artist wall area. The Center’s event calendar has information for future exhibitions.

Fashion Expofashion expo

At the annual Celebration of the Arts in September 2019, the Center’s Educational Complex hosted Fashion Expo. This exhibition featured clothing created by Dr. Anthony Wilson, a professor in Appalachian State’s Apparel Design program, Jenny Edsel, a teacher at Alexander County High School, and Appalachian State alumni, and their respective students. The exhibition also provided an opportunity for the students to meet with Matt Moosa ‘18, a graduate of the Apparel Design Program and founder of MoosePacks, a company that specializes in handmade bicycle bags and accessories.
