Call for Applications
Tenured, active faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine and Applied Arts, or Hayes School of Music are eligible to apply for the Sharpe Chair. Sharpe Chairs are appointed for three years and paid $6,000 per year ($18,000 total) for their service.
This position provides faculty the opportunity to work with the Hiddenite Arts and Heritage Center to provide quality creative, educational and/or artistic programming to the community and local schools. The center is located in Alexander County, approximately an hour from the Appalachian State Boone campus. For more information about the Sharpe Chair agreement, review this document.

Submit (a) your CV, (b) a cover letter, and (c) a recommendation letter from your department chair to the dean (faadean@appstate.edu) by September 4, 2024.
In the letter, please address your interests specifically to the Hiddenite Center and its mission to:
Connect the public with the rich arts, cultural and natural heritage of the northwest NC region by making quality arts and heritage programming accessible for all.
Serve as a catalyst for economic development and tourism, supporting and uniting artists and craftspeople across regional northwest NC communities.
Schedule for selecting the 2024-2027 Sharpe Chair:
September 04, 2024: Cover Letter and CV due
September 18, 2024: Applicant review complete and interviews scheduled
September 20, 2024: Deans interview applicants and make recommendations to Provost
September 25, 2024: Candidates are notified and Hiddenite Executive committee is informed
September 27, 2024: Sharpe Chair 2024-2027 announced

Nominations are now open for faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine and Applied Arts and The Hayes School of Music for the Sharpe Chair.
This three-year position provides faculty the opportunity to work with the Hiddenite Arts and Heritage Center to provide quality creative, educational and/or artistic programming to the community and local schools. The center is located in Alexander County, approximately an hour from Appalachian State's campus.
To apply for the Sharpe Chair position, submit a CV and cover letter outlining your interests and experiences researching or facilitating art, cultural and/or historic programming. Please address your interests specifically to the Hiddenite Center and its mission which includes:
